Fast Electric Actuator

Fast Electric Actuator

Fast Electric Actuator KT0805-30L is a 5 V DC micro push rod for the flaps and covers that close a compartment inside compact equipment. It has an 8 mm tube, 30 mm of travel, 2 kg of push-pull force, 2 mm/s, a 10 kg self-locking hold with the power off, IP56 and noise at or below 50 dB. The usual duty is a light plate that has to open for access and stay shut between jobs.

Product Introduction

Product introduction

Fast Electric Actuator KT0805-30L measures 8 mm across the tube and 96.5 mm with the rod retracted; at the full 30 mm stroke it extends to 126.5 mm. It pushes and pulls 2 kg at 2 mm/s, draws 0.2 A, and holds its position with a 10 kg self-locking force once the supply is removed. The body and rod are 304 stainless steel and copper alloy, sealed to IP56.

On a desktop 3D printer or laser engraver, this model drives the flap that closes the build chamber between jobs. The flap is a light plate on two short rails. It has to open far enough for the operator to reach the bed, close again before the job starts, and stay closed while the machine is idle or unplugged. The actuator sits inside the casing next to the gantry, where the clearance is set by the frame rather than by the designer.

Why It Fits

  1. 8 mm outer tube. The tube is the part that has to pass between the gantry and the casing wall. At 8 mm it can run behind the frame extrusion without changing the machine's outer dimensions.
  2. 96.5 mm retracted, 126.5 mm extended. The 30 mm of travel comes out of a body under 100 mm long, so the flap and its actuator share the same 130 mm of depth behind the panel.
  3. 2 kg against a light flap. A flap plate, its carriage and two rails come to roughly 300 g; the remaining margin absorbs rail friction, a magnetic catch and an uneven pull at one end of the travel.
  4. 10 kg hold with the power off. The screw holds the flap closed when the machine is idle or unplugged, without current and without a brake.
  5. 2 mm/s. Full travel takes about 15 s. The flap arrives without impact, which matters when a printed part or a workpiece is standing on the bed near the opening.
  6. IP56 and 304 stainless. The chamber side of a printer collects dust and resin mist, and the casing is wiped with alcohol. The body has no plating or paint to blister, and the sealed outlet tolerates spray.
  7. ≤50 dB and 5 V DC at 0.2 A. The unit runs off the controller's 5 V rail and stays below the noise of the fans, so it can be used in an office or a shared workshop.

Peer Comparison

Attribute KT0805-30L PQ12 (100:1)
Outer tube / body 8 mm tube, 96.5 mm retracted Body diameter not published in the datasheet
Stroke 30 mm 20 mm
Rated force 2 kg (≈20 N) 20 N at peak efficiency, 50 N maximum
Hold with power off 10 kg (≈100 N) 35 N back-drive force
Ingress protection IP56 IP54
Noise ≤50 dB 55 dB at 45 cm
Supply 5 V DC, 0.2 A 6 or 12 V DC, 550 mA stall at 6 V
Duty cycle 10% 20%
Position feedback None; two leads and an external limit board Potentiometer or end-of-stroke switches, depending on version

Two differences matter for a chamber flap. The first is the tube: at 8 mm it passes behind a frame extrusion, and the datasheet of the reference unit does not publish a body diameter to compare against. The second is the hold: 10 kg keeps the flap shut on a machine that is switched off for days, while a 35 N back-drive figure is overcome by hand pressure on the flap.

For a duty that sits between two rows - heavy and quick at the same time - this frame is not the answer. The rest of the range is listed under electric actuator.

Common Questions

Q: Is 2 kg enough force?

A: For a flap of about 300 g on its own rails, yes. The 2 kg is the rating across the stroke, not a peak at the start. It will not compress a thick gasket or free a jammed flap, and the 10 kg figure is a holding force that must not be used to drive anything.

Q: What happens on a power cut?

A: The flap stays where it is. The screw is self-locking at 10 kg, so the rod holds position with no current, no heat and no brake.

Q: What does IP56 cover?

A: Dust and water jets on the body and rod - wipe-down and spray. Not immersion and not steam. The external limit board sits outside the sealed body and has to be fixed in a dry area.

Q: Are end switches or a position sensor needed?

A: No. The supplied external limit board stops the drive at both ends and cuts the current on a jam. The two leads set the direction, and there is no position signal to read.

Q: Can it run faster?

A: Not on this drive. The fast version of the frame runs about 9 mm/s at 300 g. Speed and force are fixed by the motor and the screw, so the choice is a different model, not a setting.

Q: What can be customized?

A: Stroke, thread and lead length. Standard strokes are 30, 50, 80, 100 and 120 mm, longer strokes are made to order, the rod-end thread is cut to match the coupling, and lead length is set at order. Voltage, speed and force stay as the model specification.

Q: What are the order terms?

A: Minimum order 100 pcs; 30% T/T in advance, balance before shipment; 20–30 days after the advance payment is received; neutral white box and carton by default, branded packaging for customers holding a registered trademark against an authorization letter; sea, air or land freight.
